The Designs

These gowns were designed for a particular scene in the show, where a Vegas wedding takes place. The designers requested that the fabrics for these dresses both reflect the characters’ personalities and also focus on sustainable making.

Due to this, there was little focus on selecting high quality fabrics, as sustainability and the feel of “80s dress up” was deemed more important.

The Process

The pattern for these gowns was drafted on the stand and then refined to each size on paper.

The materials used for these dresses were sourced from scrap stores and comprise of polyester satin, net, a lining of polyester, and gathered tulle in the skirt for added volume.

Each dress has a centre back zip fastening with hook and eye, and clear shoulder straps.

The sash and bow on the design was later altered owing to the fabrics available and the movement carried out by the performers.
